We’ve talked about the process and programme on several occasions, the next stage (formal Local Plan consultation) being due in July/August, based on last-known progress. However, whilst asking about the timing of the next stage, we’ve unearthed some disturbing news. According to a BMBC spokesperson:
“… we’ve now finished uploading the representations and are going through the process of considering these to establish how we move forward. The initial timescale whereby we were suggesting consulting on a publication version this summer is not being adhered to so we are working on a revised Local Development Scheme, which will set out timescales for further consultation on changes and timescales thereafter. As such, I can confirm that the next stage of consultation isn’t being put before cabinet on 1st July“.
This is very strange, not least because there have been many occasions on which BMBC have explained the Local Plan process and dates (and as publicised by us). Their website, updated as late as 23 March, has no hints as to what’s afoot.
We’re awaiting a response from BMBC about what this means and what the timing will be. In the meantime, we’ll be researching the subject. It’s worrying that this information was only volunteered when we asked a direct question about a specific event. What if we hadn’t?
